The 2003 Wild Fish Soiree and Auction

It’s Auction time again at Washington Trout. The 12th Annual Wild Fish Soiree and Benefit Auction will be held on Sunday, May 18th, 2003 at the Pickering Barn in Issaquah, Washington. Jerry Toner will be returning as auctioneer. The Soiree is Washington Trout’s largest annual fundraising event. Proceeds from the auction help Washington Trout conduct important research, advocate for better management, and protect and restore the habitats of Washington’s wild salmon, trout, char, and other native fish.  Southern Chile Expeditions, S.A. is donating two fly-fishing expedition packages, to provide financial support for this important work.

Fly-fishing Expedition Packages

These packages are offered for bid as a combined pairThe fly-fishing expeditions provide for an 8-day, 7-night fly-fishing expedition for two anglers.  Winning bidders are responsible for their airfare to and from the El Tupual Airport in Puerto Montt, Chile. Southern Chile Expeditions staff will meet you in the El Tepual airport in Puerto Montt and provide your ground transportation to and from the lodge.

The expedition package includes all transfers, food, lodging, guides, and fishing licenses. Telephone, Internet, fax and alcoholic beverages (not included with meals) are at additional coast. Guests are responsible for providing all personal fly-fishing equipment and clothing. Equipment rental, if needed, is available at additional cost.  The value of each package is $4,250 double occupancy. The combined packages are valued at $8,500. These packages may be used during the months of November and December 2003 and March 23rd through May 4th, 2004 at Yan Kee Way Lodge.

Funds for Washington Trout

Raising the maximum amount of funds for Washington Trout in the auction is the objective of this donation. Therefore a minimum starting bid for the Fly-fishing Expeditions is $2,500 per person for a combined total minimum bid of $5,000.  As an incentive to increase the bid amount, should the winning bid for the two packages combined be in excess of $6,500 the winning bidders may have their choice of any then available package dates during the 2003-2004 season.  Winning bidders must elect their package date within 7 business days of the auction which will assure the broadest choice of available dates. These expeditions must be used no later than May 4th, 2004.

Members of Washington Trout or others who are interested in obtaining first hand information regarding these fly-fishing expeditions may contact Washington Trout for the names of previous winning bidders who will be pleased to tell you about their fly-fishing expeditions at Yan Kee Way Lodge.

WASHINGTON TROUT

Dedicated to the preservation and restoration of Washington State's wild fish and their habitats.

WASHINGTON TROUT ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND

Washington Trout is a 501(c)(3) non-profit conservation-ecology organization founded in 1989, dedicated to the preservation and recovery of Washington’s wild fish and the habitats they depend on. We focus our efforts on all the factors that have contributed to wild salmon declines and that may impact their recovery, including ecosystem preservation and restoration, commercial and sport harvest management, and hatchery practices. To improve conditions for all of Washington’s native wild fish, most notably wild salmon, trout, and char, we have conducted and disseminated research on the status and recovery needs of wild fish populations and their ecosystems, successfully advocated for needed resource management changes, and designed and implemented model habitat-restoration projects. We coordinate with the environmental community, public agencies, the media, and the general public to raise awareness of the factors challenging the Northwest’s wild fish resources, and to promote effective options for preserving and restoring those resources.

Washington Trout bases all of its practices, policies, and advocacy on the needs of the resource, rather than any particular user groups. By focusing on the needs of wild fish and their habitats, Washington Trout believes it can best serve the broader public interest in a successful salmon recovery effort. Washington Trout uniquely and effectively combines:  knowledge of the major biological and physical sciences relevant to the conservation of wild salmon and their ecosystems; working relations with contemporary authorities in these disciplines; policy evaluation and working relationships with management agencies at the state and local level; and on-the-ground work in habitat preservation and land use evaluations. We seek to incorporate the most current available science into environmental policy and the region’s ongoing salmon-recovery efforts. Washington Trout has built a reputation for expertise, credibility, and a focus on the needs of the resource and has a thirteen-year record of bringing a critical perspective to salmon recovery planning at the state and local levels.
